Stopera: Enchanting Operetta

CONCERT Friday 3 May 7.30pm


Experience the wonderful world of operetta with Stopera, the ACT’s chamber opera company, in a program of Viennese waltzes by Strauss and Lehár, Parisian romances by Offenbach, and the comic songs of Gilbert and Sullivan. Singers Rebecca Collins, Rachael Duncan and Rohan Thatcher  have performed with Opera Australia, Oz Opera, Opera Queensland and internationally in the UK, Germany and America. Accompanied at the piano by Macquarie Conservatorium director Vivienne Winther, the artists perform a glittering selection of operetta’s greatest hits, with excerpts from The Merry Widow, Die Fledermaus, The Pirates of Penzance, and more.

Vocal masterclass Sat 4 May

A masterclass for singers & singing students with a team of experienced concert and opera performers. Rebecca Collins, Rachael Duncan and Rohan Thatcher have performed with Opera Australia, Oz Opera, Opera Queensland and internationally in the UK, Germany and America. Vivienne Winther has worked as a vocal coach and opera repetiteur overseas and in Australia, and has led the production of more than 20 opera and concert seasons for ACT chamber opera company Stopera. In recital, these artists have performed at major festivals and for national institutions in repertoire ranging from Baroque to Broadway. This masterclass is an opportunity for trained singers and students of singing in classical and/or musical theatre styles. Singers wishing to participate actively in this master class should download and return the booking form. Everyone welcome as audience/observers.

Choral workshop with Paul Jarman

Tuesday 21 May 6.30pm


Visiting composer, choral conductor and educator Paul Jarman will run a FREE workshop for school teachers and community choir leaders, sharing with them his skills and techniques for choral conducting & creative singing. This is a unique opportunity to learn from one of the best practitioners in this field in Australia. He is an inspirational choir leader and musical director who will encourage and enthuse you to lead and facilitate choir singing in your school or community. Paul is well known for his choral music and original lyrics, commissioned by ensembles including Gondwana Voices, Sing NSW, the Sydney Children’s Choir, Birralee Voices, and Australian Boys Choir. Jazz on the Green

Bring your family and friends along to this relaxed picnic event presented by Dubbo Jazz to support the upcoming 2013 Dubbo Jazz Festival, now in its 23rd year. Enjoy the delightful heritage ambience of Dundullimal Homestead while soaking up cool jazz tunes. Featuring The Con Artists: James Laundon, Shannon Laundon, Steve Smith, Dale Freeman and Greg Barker. Also performing: the Tin Roof Big Band from Wellington and other guest artists. Bring your own picnic. Cafe, BBQ and bar service available.

Harmony Singers: Tribute to Stage & Screen

At the Western Plains Cultural Centre

Join the HARMONY SINGERS, Macquarie Conservatorium’s award-winning adult choir, in a concert of memorable music from films and musicals, conducted by Lindy Blekemore and accompanied by Di Pascoe. The entertaining Tribute to Stage and Screen program features favourite songs from Singing in the Rain, Jesus Christ Superstar, Sister Act, Boy from Oz and others, all performed in the beautiful setting of the gallery space at Western Plains Cultural Centre. Canapés and a complimentary drink will be served at interval. Please note that advance bookings by Thursday 27 June are essential for this special event.
