Ukelele workshop: Dubbo Jazz Festival

at Macquarie Conservatorium

 

Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 August

 

A unique, hands-on experience for ukulele lovers, or anyone who would like to have a go at playing this user-friendly instrument. This workshop offers a great opportunity for participants to learn from and play with master musicians from the Janet Seidel Trio. The workshop consists of two ninety minute workshops led by Chuck Morgan of the Janet Seidel Trio. The sessions are on Saturday and Sunday, and the workshop concludes with a jam together with the Trio in the final concert of the Festival on Sunday afternoon. Enrolment is open to players of all ages - adults and youth from 12 yrs, and all skill levels - beginner to advanced.

SESSION TWO: Sunday 11 August from 1pm-2:30pm

The Sousaphonics

WORKSHOP Sunday 8 September 11am

“Finding the groove” Improv & ensemble playing for wind, brass & guitar

 

The Sousaphonics present a dynamic workshop on ‘finding the groove’. The band members, who are all professional musicians active in Sydney’s jazz and world music scenes, work with participants to develop improvisation skills in different musical genres such as jazz, folk, rock and Balkan tunes. They also look at developing great ensemble playing skills – how to find the groove with other musicians to create a fantastic overall sound and allow each musician’s unique skills to shine through. Suitable for students of AMEB level Grade 4 and upwards.

The Sousaphonics

FAMILY CONCERT Sunday 8 September 3:30pm

 

The Glorious Sousaphonics were formed in 1997 as an all-conquering, pint-sized New Orleans-style brass band, and have built a reputation for red-hot soloing and brilliant ensemble playing. Active in Sydney’s jazz and world music scenes, each musician brings their own tastes and influences to the mix, resulting in a wild and wacky menu of music for brass, woodwind, guitar and voice. Enjoy a family-friendly afternoon concert by this entertaining band, playing everything from jazz to calypso. Ideal for the young and the young at heart!

OPEN DAY at Macquarie Conservatorium

Sunday 15 September from 1pm FREE

 

Experience music in action at Macquarie Conservatorium’s Open Day. Program includes: Band Extravaganza featuring Dubbo school bands from 1pm; Round-the clock performances by instrumental and vocal students and choirs from 2.30pm; FREE Come and Try sessions – intro-to music for preschoolers; drumming for all ages; and other fun hands-on music activities.


Free entry, refreshments on sale and info available on 2014 programs. Come along and find out what music activity is right for you!
