Music classes for young children

Free Come & Try Sessions

 

  • MusicMakers 5-6yrs: Tue 28 January 4pm

  • MusicPlay 4-5yrs: Wed 29 January 10am

  • MusicPlay 2-3yrs: Thu 30 January 10am

    Young children and their parents can experience some of the fun music activities featured in Macquarie Conservatorium’s early childhood music program at free Come and Try sessions for MusicPlay and MusicMakers. Each trial session will last 30 minutes, and are for interested new students and their parents. Note all children must be accompanied by an adult. Regular weekly classes in MusicPlay and MusicMakers start the following week from 3 February.     NEW Youth Music Theatre Workshop 7-12yrs

    Info Session: Thursday 6 February 4pm

     

    Macquarie Conservatorium’s fun new program for children aged 7-12 yrs combines music and drama, and explores the exciting world of music theatre. Participants will learn about singing, acting and movement, as well as perform in their own musical shows. No previous experience is required: anyone can join! Come along to the Info Session on Thursday 6 February at 4pm to find out more or contact Macquarie Conservatorium for details. Enrolments for this new program are open now. Regular weekly sessions start the week after the Info session, from Thursday 13 February.


    Weekly sessions: Thursdays 4.00pm-5.30pm in school terms

    An exciting evening of Gypsy magic and mayhem opens Macquarie Conservatorium’s concert series for 2014. With members from Hungary, Serbia, Macedonia and Australia, virtuosic world fusion band Lolo Lovina draws influences from Balkan Gypsies, Swing jazz and Tango. Spirited and energetic in performance, the band is fronted by Australian Hungarian Romani-Gypsy singer Sarah Bedak, Serbian Gypsy guitarist and drummer Nenad Radic, Toni Dimitrioski Truba on trumpet and flugelhorn, Lj Pope on bass and Mad Max Medeks Malenovich on piano and piano accordion. Lolo Lovina have appeared at Guca Trumpet Festival, Serbia, Luminous Festival (at the request of Brian Eno) and 40th Anniversary Celebrations, Sydney Opera House, and the Spiegeltent, Brisbane Festival.

    Recorder / Vocal Workshops

    with the Christine Wheeler Trio

    Two inspiring workshops with the Christine Wheeler Trio from the Blue Mountains. These fine folk musicians are legendary around Eastern Australia and are experienced workshop leaders. Presented by Dubbo Folk Club in association with Macquarie Conservatorium
    Workshop 1: Playing the Recorder  2.00-3.00 pm
    Some Celtic and Renaissance style tunes, for players beyond absolute beginner stage.
    Workshop 2: Singing in Harmony 3.30-4.30pm
    “Where harmonies complete the song...” Celtic, African and various other flavours.

    Cost: $20 per workshop or $35 for both.
    Student concession: $17 per workshop or $30 for both.

    FREE PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

    WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS

    Presented by Kim Waldock

    Wednesday 5 March 3.45 – 6.00pm

    Macquarie Conservatorium

     

    A FREE professional learning opportunity, accredited with the NSW Institute of Teachers. For all interested teachers - you do not have to know anything about music to participate in this workshop. A series of classroom activities will be presented that can be used with infants, primary and junior high school classes. All participants will receive a USB which contains lesson material in digital form for use on smartboards, audio files, and teacher notes to print out. Registrations for this free workshop are essential. Presented by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Education Unit in association with Macquarie Conservatorium.

    Free Singing Workshops for school students with Michelle Leonard

     

    Workshop for Secondary Students yrs 7-11 Tuesday 25 March 4.30-5.30

     

    Workshop for Primary students years 3-6 Wednesday 26 March 4.30pm-5.30pm

     

    An exciting opportunity for students to SING, COMPOSE, MOVE, CREATE, led by award-winning singer, conductor and inspirational artistic director of Moorambilla festival, MICHELLE LEONARD. No previous singing experience is necessary to benefit from this free workshop – this is an educational and cultural activity that will get every student energised, thinking and SINGING! From this workshop, some students with interest and potential may be offered a place in primary students’ Moorambilla Voices Regional Children’s Choir, or MAXed–OUT for secondary students, with performances in September.     Born in Melbourne, Daniel de Borah studied at the Liszt Academy of Music Budapest, St Petersburg State Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Music London. Third prize winner at the 2004 Sydney International Piano Competition, Daniel has appeared as soloist with the English Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London, Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Sydney, Adelaide and Canberra Symphony Orchestras. He has given recitals at major venues and festivals throughout the UK including Wigmore Hall, and at the Canberra International Music Festival, Huntington Estate Music Festival and the Australian Festival of Chamber Music Townsville. This recital features works by Schubert, Chopin and Prokoviev.

    Piano Masterclass

    with visiting pianist Daniel de Borah

     

    Saturday 5 April 11am

     

    Piano students, teachers and music lovers are all welcome to attend this masterclass. Daniel de Borah studied at the Liszt Academy of Music Budapest, St Petersburg State Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Music London. Third prize winner at the 2004 Sydney International Piano Competition, Daniel has appeared as soloist with major orchestras and at festivals in the UK and Australia. The masterclass is open to everyone as audience/observers - no need to book, just pay entry fee at the door. Student pianists wishing to participate actively as performers in this master class  should download and return the registration form.
