Simon Tedeschi: Gershwin & Me

Concert: Friday 18 July 7.30pm

Macquarie Conservatorium

Adult $29 / Concession $23 / Family of 4 $53 / School student $7

Celebrated Australian pianist Simon Tedeschi brings a very special performance to Dubbo with Gershwin and Me, a musical love-story that transcends decades and continents. From the rhythmic jostlings of a curious kid from Brooklyn to Gershwin’s premature death at 38, Tedeschi explores not only Gershwin the man but Gershwin the legend - his friends, his influences, his idiosyncrasies, his complexity. The 2012 release of Tedeschi’s Gershwin and Me CD reached No.1 in the Limelight charts. Now his live show takes the audience on a journey of discovery, through the worlds of improvisation, classical bravura and blues. This concert features Gershwin favourites including I Got Rhythm, Summertime, The Man I Love, Rhapsody in Blue, and music by composers from Gershwin’s world - Rachmaninov, Debussy, Grainger & Fats Waller.

Humarimba Workshop

with visiting artist Linsey Pollak

For adults and teens from 15 years

Monday 8 September 6.00pm

Macquarie Conservatorium

What’s a Humarimba? Linsey Pollak invented the Humarimba: a marimba (or large xylophone) played by three people and suspended from the belts of two of the three players. Linsey’s Humarimba workshops are “hands on” and fun: you’ll learn to play catchy music composed by Linsey specifically for the Humarimba. A great chance to develop tuned percussion skills and explore the potential of marimbas as an ensemble instrument for all ages.
This workshop is ideal for school teachers, music teachers and community musicians. Previous musical experience is not essential to participate in this workshop, so absolute beginners are welcome, but people with music backgrounds will also find it interesting and stimulating.

Cost: $15     Registrations essential as places are limited
