Come along and enjoy a relaxed afternoon of lovely music! Students of the Macquarie Conservatorium perform instrumental and vocal works. Free admission – everyone welcome.

An inspiring opportunity for secondary music students to meet and learn from four leading jazz musicians. The workshop will include lecture demonstration by the artists on the techniques of jazz, plus hands-on opportunities for the students to play and experiment with jazz styles, under the guidance of these visiting professionals. Students who do not wish to play an instrument or sing, or who do not have previous experience playing jazz will be included in this workshop, as well as those with jazz experience.  All students are encouraged to bring their instruments.

Cost per student $10, accompanying teachers free

Emma Pask & the Phil Stack Trio

Australia’s favourite jazz vocalist Emma Pask joins forces with renowned bassist Phil Stack, drummer Tim Firth and guitarist James Muller for a memorable night of jazz. Born in Dubbo, Phil Stack has toured internationally playing bass with many of the jazz greats, while also playing and recording with multi-platinum rock band Thirsty Merc. Award-winning Emma Pask has performed all over the world for VIP audiences including the late Diana Princess of Wales and Princess Mary of Denmark, while her stint on “The Voice” took her talent to an even wider audience. Both Emma and Phil play regularly together with the great James Morrison, and in this concert they’ll explore swing standards and cool Latin jazz.

Come along to the latest show from our Youth Music Theatre Workshop! Imagine what it would be like to travel back in time, and visit any historical figure you liked from any era. Two children discover an old board game called ‘TimeLord’ which leads them to meet a real Time Lord and go on an incredible journey into the past. The time travellers meet some fantastic historical characters like Florence Nightingale, Beethoven, and Boudicca, along with a group of evacuees from the Second World War. This amazing adventure story is bursting with catchy songs, fascinating characters and plenty of comedy. Our young performers aged 7 to 12 years are directed by Camilla Ward with musical direction by Raelene Burn. Ideal for families.

Drumming Workshops for youth and adults with Kai Tipping aka “Kaya boom”

Saturday 17, Sunday 18 & Monday 19 September

Kai Tipping aka “Kaya Boom” is one Australia’s most exciting drummers. He has led drumming processions for many festivals, including Falls Festival, Woodford Folk Festival and Womadelaide. Kai has run workshops in schools all around the country and taught more than 20,000 people the joys of drumming. Kai’s workshops are high energy, his skills are contagious and he is passionate about sharing his love of music with everyone. These workshops are for kids, teens and adults, for those who have drummed before and those who would like to try for the first time. Drums provided or bring your own if you have one.

Workshop 1 - children 8-12 yrs: Sat 17 Sept 3.30-4.30

Open Day at Macquarie Conservatorium

Sunday 18 September from 1pm FREE


Experience music in action at Macquarie Conservatorium’s Open Day. Program includes:

  • Band Extravaganza featuring Dubbo school & community bands
  • Round-the clock performances by instrumental and vocal students and ensembles
  • Come and Try sessions: intro-to-music for preschoolers, drumming for all ages, and other fun hands-on music activities.
