Jazz at the Con - Featuring Sarah Drake with Side Pockets

  • Macquarie Conservatorium 72 Bultje Street Dubbo, NSW, 2830 Australia (map)

Sarah is honoured to be performing at the Macquarie Conservatorium. A university graduate with Honours in Musical Theatre and Voice, she has built an international career spanning the United States, Europe, and Australia as both a soloist and a founding member of a vintage-inspired Andrews Sisters jazz trio.

Her professional highlights include performing in duet with jazz luminary Wynton Marsalis, appearing on the original cast recording of Burgertown: The Musical, recording children’s music for an early learning curriculum in the United States, and lending her voice to Starbucks commercials aired on MTV. While based in New York City, Sarah was also a sought-after backing vocalist for various artists, further refining her versatility and distinctive sound.

Sarah’s love of jazz began early when she was introduced to the music of Billie Holiday. The depth of storytelling within the melody, the courage to communicate profound truths through song, and the effortless intimacy of her sound left a lasting impression. From there, she immersed herself in the timeless artistry of countless greats including Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, The Andrews Sisters, and the incomparable big band leaders Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, and Count Basie.

Blending these rich influences with her foundation in musical theatre and a deep commitment to storytelling, Sarah offers engaging, heartfelt interpretations of beloved standards — and perhaps a few discoveries yet to be made — bringing timeless sophistication and emotional connection to every performance.
