Australia’s oldest and most prolific University Big Band, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Jazz Orchestra is touring the Hunter and Central West regions of NSW in May as part of their ongoing commitment to regional outreach and schools engagement.

Jazz audiences in Muswellbrook, Dubbo & Bathurst will be treated to a dynamic and powerhouse ensemble featuring the musicians of tomorrow, … today! Award winning soloists, sublime vocals and dynamic ensemble playing will thrill audiences and introduce them to the passion and dedication of our future jazz stars.

The Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Studies course, the oldest and most prestigious in Australia, features four Big Bands, making it the largest Jazz Orchestral program in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the largest in the world! The Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra is the flagship ensemble and its alumni includes a who’s who of Australian jazz luminaries, Freedman Fellows and National Jazz Prize winners, as well as a healthy cohort of New York based players currently taking on the world. Led by Australian Jazz Legend and Big Band fanatic, David Theak, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Jazz Orchestra set list has been curated and meticulously rehearsed to present the hippest available repertoire, including cutting edge originals, by the world’s leading composers, as well as time honoured instrumental and vocal classics reworked in a contemporary way.
