Ian holds a Bachelor of Primary Education and is an accredited member of the NSW Institute of Teachers. His teaching experience includes four years as music teacher at Warren Central School, where he taught mandatory and elective secondary music programs, including music theory, music history, music appreciation, instrumental tuition and composition. While in Warren, he also delivered music enrichment classes to primary classes, ran the primary choir and secondary music performance group, and delivered Life Skills music programs to special needs students. He has been a music tutor at NSW Department of Education Western Region Band and Creative Arts camps.

Prior to his position at Warren, Ian taught music studies at the Yarrandamarra Centre at Dubbo TAFE, working with students at Dubbo and Wellington campuses. His TAFE program included weekly music sessions with a group from Westhaven. Ian also worked with the Australian Childrens Music Foundation, teaching guitar to students at the Lincoln Centre.

Ian is an experienced performer on acoustic and electric guitar in a variety of contexts including solo, duo, small ensemble and big band, and across many genres including folk, country, rock and jazz. He has played in musical productions at Warren Central School and St John’s College Dubbo. Ian was an original member of the Great Western Plains Big Band, and presently plays with local group, The Legless Pedestrians.
